Reportage
Walking in Milan with the Leica Q
With the Leica Q I am discovering a new way of photographing. Perfect for the street, the Leica Q is light, efficient, discreet and has the qualities of a professional SLR. For some years now I have been using fixed lenses, I prefer the sharpness of a fixed lens to the flexibility of a zoom, and I find the 28mm the ideal lens for travel photography. The full-frame 24M pixel sensor works very well even at high ISO and provides enough margins to “crop” and get a perfect shot. The defects I found in this machine are:
- Excessive battery consumption, a problem that can be remedied by purchasing a replacement battery;
- The non-interchangeable optics;
- The price, which still corresponds to the price of a full frame with professional optics.
On the occasion of a day spent in Milan I had the opportunity to try this marvel of German technology and below it is possible to view some images. The shots were made in jpg and black / white, the only intervention to which I have subjected the files produced by the machine is the reduction of the resolution to 72dpi. The exposure method used was Aperture Priority, often using the hyperfocal technique, which thanks to the graduated scales on the optics, setting is child’s play. I would like to conclude with a comment on the city of Milan. The city is very beautiful, clean and tidy, the services work well and I think it has an undeserved reputation.
